About the Position: This position is located within Defense Health Agency Region Indo-Pacific within Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) Department of Ckinical Pathology in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Duties

  • Serves as a clinical laboratory Scientist in the microbiology section of a clinical laboratory, with responsibility for performing a variety of procedures.
  • Selects procedures, which are appropriate for the request for service and congruent with patient considerations.
  • Processes specimens using equipment, instruments, or techniques that are necessary to prepare them for specific analysis.
  • Responds to time factors to ensure that the physiologic state of the specimen is maintained.
  • Prepares reagents, assembles equipment, verifies correct instrument operation.
Requirements
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
  • Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or other board or registry deemed comparable by Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD(HA)).
