JOB OVERVIEW:

The Estimator is responsible for the accurate, timely and detailed cost estimates on large, complex construction projects. The ideal candidate should have extensive knowledge of construction means and methods, project schedule preparation, costs and construction principles. They should be a self-starter and work efficiently with minimal oversight, must be able to meet critical deadlines and have the ability to lead and work as part of a greater team.

As an Estimator in the Estimating Department, you will be the primary support for our Heavy Civil division.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist Senior Estimator in determining workloads.
  • Oversee and supervise quantity take-off personnel and Estimator section.
  • Inspect plans and specifications of prospective project.
  • Responsible for all quantity take-offs.
  • Inform management of all risks and advantages involved in each project.
  • Schedule quantity take-off personnel to make deadlines.
  • Keep abreast of innovative construction techniques and products.
  • Properly evaluate material vendors and subcontractors' quotes.
  • Examine contract and subcontractor documents.
  • Conduct site investigations.
  • Prepare conceptual, preliminary and construction budgets.
  • Responsible for reviewing manpower and equipment distribution and availability with construction manager and superintendents.
  • Keep abreast of all prospective competitors.
  • Assist field personnel in change order work.
  • Negotiates projects with developers, architects, engineers, and other agencies.
  • Assist fellow estimators in finalizing prospective bids.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
  • 5+ Years in construction type projects with 5+ years Estimating .
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in estimating software , MS Office products [Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint].
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, project date and commercial terms.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and present solutions.
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to recognize discrepancies.
  • Strong math and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to meet critical deadlines.
  • Function effectively whether independent or as part of a team.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.

Starting Salary: $85,000.00/yr.
