About the role
- The role of an Inventory Control and Production Planner involves overseeing the inventory levels of goods within an organization and strategizing production plans to meet demand while minimizing costs and maximizing efficiency. This position requires a strong understanding of supply chain management, inventory control principles, and production scheduling.
What you'll do
- Monitor inventory levels, track stock movements, and optimize inventory turnover rates to ensure sufficient stock availability while minimizing excess inventory costs.
- Utilize historical data, market trends, and demand forecasts to predict future demand for products accurately. Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to gather relevant information for forecasting.
- Develop production schedules and plans based on demand forecasts, production capacity, and resource availability. Coordinate with production teams to ensure timely execution of production plans.
- Maintain relationships with suppliers, negotiate contracts, and monitor supplier performance to ensure timely delivery of raw materials and components.
- Implement quality control measures to maintain product quality standards and minimize defects in finished goods.
- Analyze production costs, identify opportunities for cost reduction, and implement cost-saving initiatives to improve profitability.
- Implement inventory optimization strategies such as ABC analysis, Just-In-Time (JIT) inventory management, and Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) to minimize inventory holding costs while ensuring adequate stock availability.
- Generate reports on inventory levels, production output, and key performance indicators (KPIs). Analyze data to identify areas for improvement and make data-driven decisions to optimize inventory control and production processes.
- Assists Purchaser in creating and issuing Purchase Orders to vendors for production materials and packaging.
Qualifications
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in inventory management software and ERP systems (e.g., Syspro, SAP, Oracle).
- Knowledge of supply chain management principles and inventory control techniques including shipping & receiving
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Problem-solving skills to address production issues and optimize processes.
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, operations management, or a related field.
- Additional certifications such as APICS CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management) may be beneficial.
- Can operate forklifts and pallet jacks and can lift up to 50 lbs weight from time to time or when needed.

- Precision is vital in inventory control to prevent errors in recording inventory levels, tracking shipments, and managing stock accuracy.

- Familiarity with inventory management software, ERP systems, and spreadsheet applications for data analysis and reporting.
- Ability to adapt to changing demand patterns, production requirements, and unforeseen disruptions in the supply chain.
- Collaboration with cross-functional teams to align inventory strategies with production goals and customer demands.
Physical Requirements
- Occasionally lift and move materials or packages weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to walk, stand, and move about production areas, warehouses, or storage facilities for inspections, inventory counts, or issue resolution.
- May need to climb stairs, ladders, or access elevated areas to check inventory or production equipment.
- Distance vision for assessing warehouse layouts, production lines, and identifying inventory placements.
- Clear verbal communication and ability to hear alarms, equipment sounds or team communication on the production floor.
- Able to use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for specific areas.
- Some work performed in a refrigerated or frozen environment.
- Work surfaces are primarily concrete with anti-fatigue mats provided where feasible.
