DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES ( *denotes essential functions):
- *Manages and supervises professional/technical staff assigned to the Instructional Technology team within Academic Technologies.
- *Functions as a subject matter expert in single instance, multi-tenant technical integration of various educational technology solutions.
- *Assumes leadership for implementation of new policies and directions in the area of centralized and distributed LAN technology use, as they relate to instruction.
- *Assists the Information Technology Services' (ITS) management team in the development of policies and direction relating to University technology use for instruction.
- Prepares written documentation, procedures and standards to assist users in utilization of the application of instructional technology to their needs in accordance with support policies and procedures.
- *Reviews, analyzes, and plans for the integration of UH system-wide educational technology solutions in support of instruction, all web-enhanced learning activities and research, including assessment of the need for new hardware, software, and technologies.
- *Collaborates with other internal and external entities to assure successful implementation of new ITS initiatives.
- *Develops detailed contract specifications for equipment and program products that supports instruction.
- *Plans, designs, and coordinates programs and activities to provide technical assistance for system wide educational technology solutions. Troubleshoots and resolves exceptionally complex technical problems.
- *Monitors upcoming enterprise educational technology solutions updates, and makes recommendations regarding implementation strategies.
- *Develops and conducts system-wide training seminars and sessions on use of UH technology, policies, support, and other topics as appropriate for UH faculty, staff and students.
- *Provides system analysis and project planning expertise with evaluation and selection of appropriate computer hardware/software for instructional computing problems to departments, organizations, and campuses.
- *Keeps current on rapid developments and emerging technologies by researching articles, attending classes, presentations, conferences and seminars.
- *Facilitate and manage the University's customized on-premise storage and streaming solution for online conference recordings.
- *Functions as lead on design, implementation and maintenance of IT systems, providing systemwide live-streaming and video-on-demand services.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Possession of a pertinent baccalaureate educational degree in Instructional Technology, Information Technology, Computer Science or related field and 7 years of progressively responsible professional information technology experience with responsibilities for instructional technology solutions, of which 2 years of the experience must have been comparable in scope and complexity to the next lower payband in the University of Hawai'i broadband system; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
- Advanced and comprehensive knowledge and understanding of a wide range of developing and emerging information technology concepts, principles and methodologies of the web enhanced and online learning.
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of a wide range of interactive and integrated technology, systems, hardware and software associated with instructional technology and web-enhanced learning.
- Demonstrated ability to understand problems from a broad interactive perspective and use of reasoning to discern underlying principles and issues when problem solving, and apply creative thinking to resolve problems in new and innovative approaches.
- Demonstrated written and verbal competence in presenting ideas, concepts and models clearly using persuasion and negotiation to build consensus and cooperation.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
- For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
- Ability to work outside normally scheduled work hours including day, night, weekend and/or holiday hours, as directed.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS - Thorough knowledge of Mac and PC environments including internetworking of these environments;
- Thorough knowledge of the Internet TCP/IP client/server applications;
- Thorough knowledge of troubleshooting procedures for hardware, software, and networks.
- Demonstrated experience as a system administrator of D2L Brightspace learning management system in a multi-campus educational environment.
