$2,159/month


Duties and Responsibilities:



  1. Coordinate and implement online and in-person outreach activities (lectures, seminars, workshops, and conferences) in collaboration with the Center for Japanese Studies Director and Associate Director.

  2. Oversee and edit Zoom recordings, upload to CJS YouTube channel or other online video formats.

  3. Maintain and update websites and social media for the Center for Japanese Studies and East Asian Studies, assess engagement analytics, and assist in search engine optimization measures.

  4. Produce PR and communications materials and reports, including the Centers newsletter.

  5. Collect, organize, and report data regarding the Center and East Asian Studies at UHM for internal materials, government reports, and grant applications.

  6. Answer and monitor the Centers communications (e.g., email accounts) and archive data (newsletters, etc.) and projects.

  7. Participate in staff meetings.

  8. Other duties related to the Centers projects.


Minimum Qualifications:



  1. Full-time classified graduate student enrolled in a UHM graduate degree program.

  2. Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in Japanese Studies.

  3. Competency in web design, such as WordPress.

  4. Experience coordinating outreach activities and preparing event flyers and announcements.

  5. Experience with databases and spreadsheets.

  6. Experience using social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram for documenting projects.

  7. Excellent English communication skills (writing, reading, speaking) at native or near-native level.

  8. Competency with Windows and Mac operating systems.

  9. Some knowledge of the Japanese language.


Desirable Qualifications:



  1. Basic video and sound editing skills.

  2. Experience writing and editing newsletters (e.g., Mailchimp).

  3. Experience with mailing list applications such as Mailchimp and UH ITS system.

  4. Experience with Zoom webinars for large groups.

  5. Advanced proficiency in Japanese.
