Come sail aboard the R/V Kilo Moana as Chief Engineer. R/V Kilo Moana is a 186' Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull (SWATH) vessel powered by a diesel-electric plant, comprised of four 910kW Caterpillar diesel engines and two 1.5MW DC drive motors. R/V Kilo Moana is operated by the University of Hawaii Marine Center to provide a platform for oceanographic researchers across the U.S. Academic Research Fleet to collect samples and data that gives us a better understanding of the planet we live on. Aboard the Kilo Moana, there are often exciting port calls, and there is always great food. This position is open, for immediate start, through early September. It is available as a contract relief for this period, OR as a regular, rotating position, generally 60 days on, 60 days off. The Chief Engineer acts as the senior engineering officer and the Master's principal assistant in all matters pertaining to engineering and administration of the Engineering Department. This is a sea-going ship's crew position. The Chief Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel's main engines, electrical generating equipment, and all other various mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic equipment, and hotel services which are a part of the ship's system. The Chief Engineer provides a daily report to the Master stating the fuel, water, lube oil, and potable water consumed in the previous twenty-four (24) hour period and total currently on hand; manages, maintains and submits required reports for Engineering Department, documentation and equipment logs. Another duty of the Chief Engineer is maintaining an accurate inventory of spare parts and supplies in coordination with Port Engineer and Purchasing Agent.
