This position has a progression.

PURPOSE STATEMENT:

Performs as a skilled operator of all fired equipment utilized in the manufacture of Synthetic Natural Gas and by-products following specific policies, procedures, and standards.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Operate fired equipment and all associated equipment (such as heat exchangers, pumps, etc.), instruments, switches, and levers as part of a shift with other processing operators: start up, observe, monitor, tend to, shut off, and isolate all such equipment.
  2. Maintain steam pressures, temperature, and flows within prescribed limits by manipulating controls and adjusting boiler blow-down controls as directed by the Chemist or Shift Supervisor. Report abnormal conditions to the Process Control Operator and/or Shift Supervisor.
  3. Perform troubleshooting or preventative maintenance on assigned fired equipment, including operability testing and basic diagnostic testing; make adjustments and repairs as qualified and authorized, such as changing pressure gauges, sight glasses, lubrication, cleaning burners, etc. Follow scheduled preventative maintenance and perform emergency repairs as needed.
  4. Monitor and log readings and maintenance actions on company forms or input data into software using PC terminals, following established procedures; prepare reports as required.
  5. Maintain a safe, orderly, and clean work environment for equipment and control devices; oversee housekeeping duties in the control room.
  6. Work safely and responsibly, complying with all safety rules, regulations, and practices. Ensure safety signs and warning devices are in place and functioning. Promote safety awareness and report unsafe conditions or acts. Keep all EH&S training current.
  7. Provide guidance and instructions to trainees, monitor, and record their work progress.
  8. Operate scissors lift as directed.
  9. Perform related tasks such as maintaining surveys, checklists, inventories, journals, and monitoring maintenance activities, including preparing work orders.
Qualifications

Required Education and/or Work Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with coursework in physics and chemistry.
  • Technical schooling in electrical and/or mechanical trades preferred.
  • Certified in CPR/AED and First Aid.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in a gas manufacturing plant or successful completion of an in-plant training program.
  • Proficient in all aspects of the described work, with good knowledge of boilers, superheaters, exchangers, pumps, compressors, furnaces, and reactors; capable of maintaining and repairing non-complex equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant codes, regulations, standards, and safety practices.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both oral and written.
  • Qualified to operate scissors lifts with a good safety record; proficient with computer use.
