Athletic trainers play a vital role in the health and well-being of athletes, helping them recover from injuries and maintain peak performance levels. The Certified Athletic Trainer at Damien Memorial School will provide the services for prevention assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of sports related injuries to our student-athletes. The Athletic Trainer will assist in the day-to-day operations of the athletic training department, to include, but not limited to appropriate daily care to athletes, application of emergency procedures, providing first aid, documentation of care, and communication with coaches and physicians. The Athletic Trainer will attend DMS athletic events, both at home and away games, provide athletic training room supervision, and assist in medical record keeping and ordering of training room supplies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and implement injury prevention programs specific to individual athletes or sports teams.
Educate athletes and coaches on the best practices for avoiding injuries during training and competition.
Evaluate injuries to determine their nature and severity.
Assess the progress of healing and make decisions regarding when an athlete can safely return to play.
Administer first aid and emergency care when necessary.
Design and implement rehabilitation programs tailored to individual athletes, including therapeutic exercise, stretching, and strengthening exercises.
Refer athletes to medical specialists when necessary for further evaluation and treatment.
Maintain detailed records of injuries, treatments, and progress for each athlete.
Educate athletes on nutrition, hydration, and other health-related issues that can affect performance and recovery.
Provide guidance on proper use of equipment and techniques to reduce injury risk.
Develop and implement emergency action plans to handle serious injuries or medical emergencies during practices and games.
Available during all practices and prepares necessary hydration and treatment for athletes.
Attends all athletic events at both on and off-campus sites.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Master's degree in athletic training or related field, certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC), First Aid certification, and CPR/AED certification.Must be eligible for Hawaii State Licensure.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1-2 years of experience as a certified athletic trainer in high school athletics or comparable work in a sports environment.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with school policies.
Able to work flexible hours that includes evenings and weekends. Some off-island travel may be required.
Have a valid driver's license and a personal vehicle that is legally registered and insured.
This position may also require driving responsibilities of a DMS vehicle.
Comply with DMS's vehicle Driving Policy.
Ability to work with middle and high school student-athletes, have excellent communication, organizational and stress management skills.
