Other Conditions: Position number 88138, UHM, JABSOM, Department of Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, (Manoa), appropriated funds, 1.0 FTE, 9-month; to begin approximately August 2025 pending position clearance and availability of funds; renewal subject to performance.

Duties:

  • Instructs Physiology 141 and 142 (Human Anatomy & Physiology) lecture and laboratory and develops a series of Physiology review sessions in each unit.
  • Assists teaching components of Physiology 301 and 302 (Advanced Human Anatomy & Physiology) lecture, laboratory and video courses.
  • Devises and implements physiology instructional laboratories.
  • Advises undergraduate students.
  • Provides selected Physiology lectures to medical students.
  • Assists with Gross Anatomy and Physiology laboratory instruction for medical students including but not limited to instructing gross anatomy and training medical students to conduct spirometry to understand pulmonary physiology; and directs renal and muscle physiology units.
  • Assists with Physiology laboratory instruction for graduate students including but not limited to teaching 12-lead EKG exams.
  • Develops and utilizes cross-cultural curriculum for the Anatomy and Physiology Continuing Education (CE) teaching and training programs.
  • Participates in the development of virtual and augmented reality curriculum.
  • Contributes to online instructional modules.
  • Responsible for overseeing graduate teaching assistants and advising undergraduate students.
  • Participates in departmental and university service activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications:

  • PhD in Physiology or related Biomedical Science field from an accredited college or university of recognized standing.
  • Evidence of ability to teach effectively in a large class and to direct group discussions.
  • Evidence of ability to teach undergraduate, graduate and medical students effectively.
  • Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.
  • Ability to organize and present anatomy and physiology laboratory experiences.

Desirable qualifications:

  • Ability to provide assistance in instruction to medical students.
  • Postdoctoral research and/or teaching experience.
  • Previous experience providing lectures for graduate or medical students.
  • Sound understanding of anatomy and physiology.
  • Previous experience presenting physiology experiments to graduate or medical students.
  • Ability to provide instruction utilizing human cadaveric material.
  • Experience with online teaching paradigms and curriculum development.
  • Experience interacting with undergraduate students in a positive and constructive fashion.
  • Ability to apply new educational technologies in the classroom.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor graduate student Teaching Assistants and upper level undergraduates in instructional delivery.
