Job Purpose

Coordinates and implements program planning for social-emotional learning and positive youth development groups and programs, focusing on community engagement and cultural relevance to enhance the well-being of vulnerable populations. Executes professional group work and community building services under the direction of the Manager, Kīpuka Services. Provides case management when needed to kamaliʻi and their ʻohana. Collaborates with the kīpuka team and community to support Hawaiian orphaned and destitute children within a culturally grounded and asset-based framework. Takes direct responsibility for implementing management and operational policies.

• Participates in program planning, implementation, budget development, revision, and evaluation.
• Provide supportive skill-building services to assist individuals, families, and groups who might have experienced challenging situations or trauma.
• Facilitates conceptualizing new initiatives or enhancements within the kīpuka. Responsibilities include crafting detailed program plans, coordinating budget plans, outlining curriculum, considering logistical requirements such as data implementation, gathering and inputting registration forms and consents, program evaluations, and ensuring alignment with strategic plan, program goals and participant needs.
• Design and implement a referral and recruitment system across diverse programs.
• Models positive group management practices and actions to ensure program participant safety by developing healthy relationships and appropriate physical and emotional boundaries with kamaliʻi.
• Develops and maintains strong positive relationships with individuals, families, groups, communities, staff and management.
• Recruit and facilitate psychosocial/skill building and exploratory group work.
• Confers with and follows direction of Manager, Kīpuka Services to provide skill building services to assist individuals, families and groups around a variety of issues. As needed, provides supportive services to the kamaliʻi (youth) as they participate in the micro, mezzo and macro levels of kīpuka.
• Complete necessary paperwork, record-keeping, and documentation related to program activities.
• Provide transportation for agency-related business including transporting program participants.
• Assists individuals, families, groups, and communities in analyzing and strategizing methods to address identified needs that build upon their existing resources and strengths. Focuses on sustainability and self-sufficiency.
• Provides outreach services to individuals, groups, and communities regarding Liliʻuokalani Trust programs and services.
• Actively works to promote and support kīpuka team.
• Advocates for the importance of children and youth representing their thoughts, feelings, and ideas through creative outlets. Uses child/youth-centered procedures for solving conflicts.
• Continually seeks additional knowledge and new approaches in Social Emotional Learning and Positive Youth Development.

Program Administration

• Researches, develops, plans, and implements age-appropriate outcome-based programs for children and youth based on Positive Youth Development and Social Emotional Learning.
• Creates a safe environment that facilitates learning and is encouraging and engaging for children and youth.
• Provides mentorship and support to assist participants in addressing presenting issues and motivate youth in their decision-making process. Provides youth and family services to support needs as required.
• Collaborates with teammates to identify problems affecting Hawaiian children and families, building on their strengths. Helps build the capacities of families, groups and communities.
  
  

Other Duties

• Contribute to the Trust's success by accepting new assignments, helping team members, learning new skills, and striving to improve team and organization results collaborating as we strive to attain the Trust's strategic goals
• Participate in continuing education and training opportunities for professional development
• Holiday, evening and weekend hours required as needed

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in social work, sociology, psychology, education, or related degree; or the equivalent life experience working with youth in need of educational, social and/or emotional support.
• Experience in communicating change or managing changes within an organization preferred.
• 2 years of experience providing services or related experience with vulnerable youth and systems involved youth experienced preferred.
• Ability to follow directives of Program Lead and Manager, Kīpuka Services and appropriately interact with individuals in program design, implementation, and facilitation.
• Community or macro level experience preferred.
• Must have a strong personal fit with our non-hierarchical, no ego, strong moral compass, intellectually honest, meritocratic culture.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Travel Requirements

In alignment with our organizational competencies of Alu Like I ka Hana (Teamwork) and Ho`omau i ka `imi Na`auao (Continuous Learning and Improvement), this position will require occasional travel across the island, inter-island, and out-of-state depending on the needs of the team and the organization. While travel may not always be a need, the ability to travel when required remains a crucial aspect of this position to successfully contribute to our concerted efforts to carry out our Queen's legacy.
