Why Our Underwriter Is Important

HIMI is a Managing General Agency and Third-Party Administrator dedicated to supporting Hawai`i's businesses through customized insurance packages and expert insurance consulting. Our Underwriter plays a key role in delivering excellent customer service by managing accounts, fostering strong agency relationships, and supporting agents in providing well-rounded and competitive insurance solutions.

Essential Duties

  • Review insurance coverage applications for completeness according to HIMI and carrier partner procedures and guidelines. Determine appropriate market placement based on application criteria and needs of the agency and agent.
  • Effectively manage book of assigned agencies including renewal management and account servicing.
  • Provide timely quotes and communication.
  • Assist agents in identifying coverage gaps.
  • Comply with HIMI Service Standards. Meet service standard quality and timeliness guidelines for all HIMI carrier partners and their processes.
  • Establish good rapport with agents to promote positive relationships.
  • Promote a culture of outstanding customer service across the organization.
  • Support organization-wide and HIMI diversification initiatives including cross-selling and product offerings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with a solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Strong customer service focus with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft operating systems, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent comparable experience.
  • 2+ years of insurance experience.
  • Knowledge of multi-line insurance coverage, policy forms, rating, and manuals (preferred).
  • Hawaii Insurance Producers License (preferred)
