Examples of Duties

Under the general supervision of the Educational Spec III of the Learning Support Section, the Educational Specialist II:

  • Reviews and approves credit/non-credit courses offered in the Department's PDE3 system. Supports PDE3 system course creators, sponsors, and instructors on how to create courses, enter grades, and submit portfolios in compliance with PD credit guidelines. Approves/disapproves portfolios; marks courses completed; and checks for accuracy of grade, credit, registration status, etc.
  • Evaluates and monitors the professional development program and assesses and identifies the needs of schools and complexes. Ensures system-wide program implementation and conformance to program standards, instructional policies, and legal and administrative directions.
  • Keeps abreast of current research and promising educational activities to support efforts to build capacity and improve student performance. Works with schools, complexes, and state offices to identify needs and design courses to enhance educator expertise.
  • Prepares program plans, performance reports, budgets, legislative testimony, and other documents as required.
  • Provides consultative services to district, school, and state personnel, community groups, and others. Collaborates with other specialists to coordinate activities and resources.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Master's degree in education with specialization relevant to the area of assignment from an accredited institution.
  • Experience: Six (6) years of professional experience in education, including four (4) years in teaching and two (2) years in curriculum or program planning.
  • Knowledge: Foundations of curriculum and instruction, instructional media, testing, research, and relevant laws and regulations.
  • Ability: Provide leadership, develop and evaluate programs, communicate effectively, operate business machines, and develop online resources.

Supplemental Information

SALARY RANGE: EOSR-7, $110,136 to $155,904.

This position is on a 12-month basis with vacation and sick leave benefits.
