Summary

The Director of Business Development (DBD) for Dedicated Transportation is responsible for leading the pursuit of new business and expansion/renewal opportunities. The successful DBD will coordinate the entire sales cycle, including lead generation, prospect qualification, and guiding the cross-functional pursuit team with clear strategies on deal approach: pricing, service offerings, value proposition, and presentation methods. The focus is on securing new sales contracts through team and solution selling. The individual will be assigned a sales quota and held accountable for meeting it.

Essential Functions

  • Lead deal pursuits and create proposals including pricing and strategy
  • Prospect new brands and develop industry networks to build a sales pipeline
  • Explore cross-sell opportunities and negotiate contracts to close deals
  • Provide ongoing support for accounts post-closure
  • Seek continuous education on vertical markets for consultative selling

Additional Responsibilities

  • Focus on one vertical or business unit, with flexibility to work on other deals as assigned
  • Develop new accounts, maintaining relationships for at least 24 months unless otherwise directed
  • Propose a revenue target of $120 million over a 5-year period
  • Secure at least one cross-sell opportunity with SCS / DTS
  • Adhere to Ryder's policies, including travel and expense policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, or related field required
  • Master's degree (MBA) preferred
  • Minimum five years of sales experience, with at least three years meeting quota and two years at 75% of quota
  • Experience selling supply chain solutions and achieving quota multiple times in a 60-month period
  • Understanding of services, costs, pricing, and value

Applicants from California, Connecticut, Colorado, Hawaii, New Jersey, New York City, and Washington: Salary ranges from $140,000 to $160,000, potentially supplemented with bonuses or commissions based on performance and business conditions.
