If hired without a completed Teacher's Education Program, you have a maximum of 3 years to obtain a valid Hawaii teaching license. Enrollment in a program is required to continue employment. You must demonstrate active pursuit of Hawaii licensing requirements annually, as set by the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board (HTSB). It is your responsibility to ensure your enrolled program aligns with your teaching line.
Upon hire, you need a valid Hawaii teaching license or Emergency Hire Permit. Applications for a Hawaii teaching license can be submitted via the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board Website. Review www.teachinhawaii.org for eligibility requirements related to bonuses, differentials, and salary placement. To receive salary differentials, apply for your Hawaii Teaching License through the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board.
