The Hawaii State Department of Education is committed to hiring highly qualified teachers in every classroom. The minimum qualification for teacher, librarian, or counselor positions, excluding designated CTE positions, is a Bachelor's Degree.
If hired without a completed Teacher's Education Program, you have a maximum of 3 years to obtain a valid Hawaii teaching license. You must enroll in a program to continue employment and demonstrate active pursuit of Hawaii licensing requirements annually, as set by the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board (HTSB). Ensure your enrolled program aligns with your hired teaching line.
Upon hire, you must have a valid Hawaii teaching license or Emergency Hire Permit. You can apply for your Hawaii teaching license via the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board Website.
