Job Summary
Research Assistant with Mo'olelo PIKO Study: Expectations are to participate with final interviews with Native Hawaiian elders who are providing information towards the development of a new life-review intervention. Review and assist with analyzing collected thematic coding narrative transcript data from previous interviews and upcoming interviews. Assist with report drafting (including literature reviews) and manual writing for future research presentations, manuscripts, and proposals.
Compensation
$18.27 - $20.19/hour
**Commensurate with experience**
Part-time, temporary, non-exempt position
Qualifications
**Minimum Qualifications:**
- B.A or B.S., preferably M.S.W. (Master's in Social Work) or related field
- 3 months of experience conducting social science or health related research
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to write effective scientific reports.
- Experience with Hawaiian community engagement and/or families.
- Detail-oriented organizational skills and ability to communicate professionally with community members, students, staff, and faculty.
- Outstanding writing skills and experience with social science and gerontology literature.
Other Qualifications
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship and relocation allowance is not available for this position.
- Report to work obligations to support the department will require work during HPU's summer breaks.
- Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with the Protection of Minors policy.
- Able to work all shifts and occasionally extended hours.
- Successful candidate will be able to work in an environment utilizing excellent time management skills.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions
- **Participate with final interview with Native Hawaiian elders who are providing information towards the development of a new life-review intervention. (10%)**
- Support the on-going research including project design, conducting interviews, confidentiality, and data collection.
- Act independently and/or cooperatively on technical matters and problem solving.
- Document activities and interviews in notebooks and logs and ensure data and protocols are followed.
- **Review and assist with analyzing collected thematic coding narrative transcript data from previous interviews and upcoming interviews. (40%)**
- Maintain equipment as established by standard operating procedures.
- Act independently and/or cooperatively on technical matters and problem solving.
- Assist in revising and expanding research protocols and procedures, if needed.
- **Assist with report drafting (including literature reviews) and manual writing for future research presentations, manuscripts, and proposals. (40%)**
- Obtain, evaluate, and summarize literature relating to assigned research projects.
- Assist with drafts of final research report and revisions to the new Native Hawaiian life story questions.
- Create written and oral reports and presentations related to research activities.
- Contribute to preparation of manuscripts, abstracts, and grant proposals.
- **Perform other related duties as assigned (10%)**
