Applicants must be at least 18 years old, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and be able to speak, read, and write English. Effective communication skills are required, along with the ability to follow instructions. The ability to lift and carry children and objects up to 45 lbs independently, and over 45 lbs with assistance, is necessary. Some activities may require driving a vehicle, including government vehicles while transporting children, and a valid driver's license may be required. Prior experience working with children, youth, or teens is required.
Applicants should have the skill to interpret and implement developmentally appropriate curricula for children and teens. Acceptable qualifications include: completion of DoD Standardized Module training with 24 months of experience at the CY-II (GSE-04) level, or a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, or a Military School-Age (MSA) credential with 1 year at the CY Program Assistant/base level 4 demonstrating competency in developmentally appropriate programming, or a minimum of a 2-year degree in Youth Development, Child Development, or related fields such as recreation, physical education, elementary or secondary education, early childhood education, psychology, social work, or home economics with emphasis in human development. Candidates must successfully complete all required training for Program Assistant levels (Entry, Intermediate, and Target).
All applicants must pass background checks as per DoD and Marine Corps policies, and pass pre-employment and annual physicals, providing immunization evidence and being free from communicable diseases. Completion of all DoD training requirements, including orientation, initial, standardized module training, and ongoing annual training, is mandatory. Certifications such as food handlers, CPR, and First Aid must be maintained. The position is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing; a positive result or failure to test may result in removal from employment.
