Organizational Location: These positions are located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations at 242 duty locations throughout the country, including the Headquarters National Capitol Region.

Duties

As an Investigative Analyst (Criminal Analyst), at the full performance level, you will perform the following duties:

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position.
  • You must successfully pass a background investigation.
  • You must successfully pass a drug screen.
  • Males born after 12/31/59 must certify registration with Selective Service.
  • Requirements by Closing Date: All requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement unless otherwise noted.
  • Probationary Period: This is a full-time permanent position (Career/Career-Conditional appointment). A one-year probationary period may be required upon appointment.
  • Overtime work may be required to meet mission objectives.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret/Top Secret/SCI clearance.
  • Mobility - May be subject to reassignment geographically or organizationally.
  • Travel may be required occasionally.

Qualifications

You qualify for the GS-7 grade level if you possess one of the following:

Experience

  • One year of specialized experience at the GS-5 level or equivalent, involving research, data summarization, evaluating information, basic analytical techniques, operating computer software, and teamwork.

OR

  • One year of graduate-level education from an accredited institution in a relevant field, demonstrating the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.

OR

  • A combination of graduate education and specialized experience totaling at least 100% of the requirement.

OR

  • A Bachelor's Degree with Superior Academic Achievement, demonstrated by class standing, GPA (3.0 or higher out of 4.0, or 3.5 or higher for certain criteria), or membership in a recognized honor society.

Qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Verification will be conducted.

Training

You will be required to complete the Homeland Security Investigations Criminal Analyst Training (HSICAT), hosted by the HSI Office of Intelligence. Failure to complete this training may result in reassignment, demotion, or separation.

Additional Information

Experience includes paid and unpaid roles, including volunteer work through programs like Peace Corps or AmeriCorps. Current or former political appointees must have OPM approval for employment offers.
