Location/Work Status: Honolulu, Hawaii

Job Type: Regular Full Time, Exempt

Compensation: $4,315.56 - $4,495.70 per month with a competitive benefits package

Program and Position Overview:

We believe every child deserves a bright and healthy future. Early education is crucial during this developmental period, especially for disadvantaged children. Investing in early education significantly impacts life outcomes and helps ensure thriving futures for Hawaii's young minds.

Federally funded initiatives provide early childhood education and comprehensive services for low-income families and children with special needs. Early Head Start (EHS) offers services in centers and homes to prenatal parents and parents with infants and toddlers. Head Start (HS) serves children ages three to five, providing a head start for school success.

The primary responsibility of the Preschool Teacher is to implement an individualized, comprehensive early childhood education program for children and their families, and to supervise classroom staff. This position reports directly to the Area Manager.

Essential Duties:

  1. Behaves in a manner that supports the agency's mission and adheres to personnel policies and procedures.
  2. Delivers individualized and comprehensive early childhood education services in line with federal standards and best practices.
  3. Provides leadership to classroom staff and assumes supervisory responsibilities for direct reports.
  4. Ensures all participants receive timely developmental screenings.
  5. Manages physical resources and maintains a safe, healthy, and stimulating learning environment that complies with licensing and federal standards.
  6. Maintains accurate documentation and ensures confidentiality of records in accordance with standards.
  7. Plans and conducts monthly lesson planning sessions with staff.
  8. Recommends training and professional development opportunities for staff and parents to the Area Manager.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be at least 18 years old. Must have at least six (6) months of experience as a lead teacher in a licensed Early Childhood Education program or center, along with one of the following:

  • An Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, including coursework equivalent to a major in ECE, with experience teaching preschool children.
  • A Bachelor's or higher degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, including coursework equivalent to a major in ECE, with experience teaching preschool children.
