Transportation Security Officers

Transportation Security Officers are responsible for providing security and protection of travelers across all transportation sectors in a courteous and professional manner. Qualification Requirements

To qualify for the SV-D pay band (equivalent to GS-5/6), you must meet one of the following:

1. Experience: At least one year of full-time work experience in the security industry, aviation screening, or as an X-ray technician.
2. Education: High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or TASC high school equivalency certificate.

Credit for experience is based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited proportionally. Volunteer experience, including through programs like Peace Corps or AmeriCorps, also counts.

Additional Requirements

• Travel: Occasional travel may be required for training and other duties.
• Selective Service: Verification of registration for male applicants born after 12/31/59.
• Credit Check: Must not have delinquent taxes or child support payments.
• Residency: Must have resided in the U.S. for three of the last five years, with exceptions.

Other Considerations

• Reemployed Annuitants: May have salary reduced due to pension.
• Appearance: Must adhere to TSA dress and appearance standards, including covering tattoos and body piercings as specified.

Work Schedules

Full-time positions require 40 hours per week, with shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and possible overtime. Part-time shifts range from 16-32 hours weekly, with similar shift considerations.

Maintaining Employment

• Complete required training and certification.
• Pass background checks and drug tests.
