Charter Preschool Director

  2025-05-28     Waikiki Community Preschool     Honolulu,HI
Description:

Lead an Innovative New Chapter in Early Education

Waikiki Community Preschool is making history as the first private preschool in Hawaii to become a public charter school. We're seeking a bold and thoughtful leader to serve as our Preschool Director—someone who is passionate about early learning, committed to equity, and ready to help create a new model for expanding preschool access without financial barriers.

This role is ideal for someone who is both a visionary and a systems thinker: a dynamic educator who can inspire staff and families, and a skilled administrator who can navigate the complexities of running a public charter school. You'll lead the launch of an inclusive, community-rooted school while ensuring fidelity to state requirements, operational procedures, and best practices in early childhood education.

If you're excited by innovation, grounded in purpose, and ready to shape the future of public Pre-K in Hawaii—this is your moment.

Why Join Us?

Be part of a pioneering team launching Hawaii's first public Pre-K charter converted from a private preschool
Work in a facility with air-conditioned classrooms, two outdoor play areas (including a yard), and free on-site parking
Collaborate with a supportive nonprofit partner (Waikiki Community Center) to integrate wraparound supports
Help implement Keiki Building Community (KBC)—an innovative program that fosters empathy, responsibility, and community engagement through age-appropriate service learning
Build a program that reflects the values and strengths of local families, with no tuition barriers

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain a positive, respectful, and collaborative work environment that supports teamwork and professional growth
Identify a variety of professional development opportunities for instructional and support staff
Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements and all State of Hawaii HR laws in collaboration with WCC administrative staff
Develop and implement inclusive family engagement strategies that encourage meaningful participation in school life
Promote the integration of community-based learning, including Keiki Building Community, to foster a sense of responsibility, belonging, and real-world learning
Monitor and respond to current trends in early childhood
Represent the school in community partnerships and initiatives
Maintain accurate records and ensure timely submission of all reports required by the State and other regulatory agencies

Qualifications – Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Educational Administration, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in early childhood education, including at least 1 year in a leadership or administrative role
  • Deep knowledge of child development and inclusive education practices
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Preferred

  • Master's degree in Early Childhood Education, Educational Leadership, or related field
  • Familiarity with Hawaii's charter school system and/or state reporting and procurement processes
  • Experience in multicultural communities
