****Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawai'i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees such as paid leave and holidays. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Lead all Ke A'o Mau interdisciplinary initiatives, including community engagement initiatives. Specifically, Ke A'o Mau as a course and project provides students with a unique body of culturally-anchored and community-based ‘ike (knowledge), skills, and values that facilitate work with kanaka maoli (Native Hawaiians). The primary focus of the course is to provide a holistic examination of issues and to explore culturally-anchored resolutions and practices to achieve social justice and health and well-being.
2. Begin research and development of virtual huaka'i.
3. Supervise Ke A'o Mau Graduate Assistant.
4. Lead Ke A'o Mau initiatives as defined by University of Hawaii Foundation funding requirements.
5. Prepare year-end reports to funders' specifications associated with faculty, kumu loea, and students.
6. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Master's degree in Social Work.
2. 4 years progressively increasing experience co-instructing SW680 Ke A'o Mau course.
3. Experience in collaborating and coordinating with cultural expertise in various cultural practices.
4. Expertise in course and huaka'i integration.
5. Strong experience in community engagement with Native Hawaiian serving organizations.
6. Strong background in Native Hawaiian cultural practices.
7. Strong interest in interdisciplinary and community-based research and instruction.
8. Strong experience with Zoom.
9. Strong oral, writing, and interpersonal skills.

Desirable Qualifications

1. Experience developing work for publication related to Kumu and Loea.
2. Expertise in drafting project reports and grants submissions for local and federal organizations.
3. Competency in cross-cultural community work.
