Primary Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Monitor and support school-level compliance with IDEA and Chapter 60 regulations.
- Interpret and analyze IDEA data indicators to inform decisions and support improved outcomes.
- Serve as a special education consultant for school administrators, SSCs, and educators
- Provide instructional coaching, modeling, and mentoring to support evidence-based practices.
- Plan and facilitate professional development focused on compliance, instruction, and inclusive education.
- Collaborate with complex area and school teams to support inclusive practices and IEP implementation.
- Assist with addressing and responding to due process cases, mediation, and state complaints.
- Support documentation, timelines, and corrective actions related to formal special education disputes.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of systemic supports that promote equitable access for students with disabilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Hawaii State Teacher License
- Certification and classroom experience in Special Education
- Demonstrated understanding of IDEA, Chapter 60, and procedural safeguards
- Experience providing coaching, mentoring, or leadership at the school or district level
- Strong skills in collaboration, communication, data analysis, and instructional planning
If you are hired without completing a Teacher's Education Program, you have a maximum of 3 years to obtain a valid Hawaii teaching license. You must enroll in a Program to continue employment with the Department. Within each year of employment, you must satisfactorily demonstrate active pursuit towards meeting Hawaii licensing requirements, as set forth by the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board (HTSB). It is your responsibility to ensure the program you have enrolled is aligned with the teaching line you are hired in.
Upon hire you will need to have a valid Hawaii teaching license or Emergency Hire Permit.
