Job Summary:

The adjunct lecturer in Construction Management will be responsible for teaching graduate-level courses in various aspects of construction management. This position involves developing and delivering engaging lectures, creating course materials, assessing student learning outcomes, and providing constructive feedback to enhance student understanding and performance. The ideal candidate will have extensive industry experience in construction management along with a strong academic background, enabling them to effectively convey theoretical concepts and practical applications to graduate students. Additionally, the adjunct lecturer will contribute to curriculum development, participate in departmental meetings, and engage in professional development activities to stay current with industry trends and educational best practices. This role requires excellent communication skills, a passion for teaching, and a commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive learning environment.

Compensation:

  • $1,150 per credit hour - Doctorate
  • $1,050 per credit hour - Master's

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or a related construction industry field with extensive experience.
  • Master's degree in construction management or a master's degree with 18 graduate hours in a related discipline, or a bachelor's degree with 3 years of relevant work experience, or an associate degree with 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to teach classes during evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to teach in-person in downtown Honolulu.

Desired Qualifications:

  • PhD in construction, civil engineering, architecture, or a related discipline.
  • 3 to 5 years of project-based professional experience in the U.S. construction industry.
  • Experience in executive-level management is highly encouraged.

Other Qualifications:

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship or relocation allowance provided.
  • Compliance with training, background checks, and the Protection of Minors policy.
  • Successful tuberculosis clearance.
  • Excellent time and stress management skills.
  • Flexibility to work during university breaks if needed.
  • Responsibilities include developing teaching materials, mentoring students, grading, and assessing learning outcomes, with course assignments based on departmental needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Teaching (95%):
    • Develop syllabi with clear course activities and student outcomes.
    • Deliver engaging and well-structured classes.
    • Maintain student participation and performance records, assign grades promptly.
    • Apply in-depth content knowledge and effective teaching strategies.
    • Use performance assessments and assessment technology to evaluate and improve teaching effectiveness.
    • Meet deadlines and adhere to departmental guidelines.
  2. Additional Duties (5%):
    • Participate actively as a team member, accepting additional responsibilities as needed.
