Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Works under the direction of the CLT Director and serves as the lead IT Specialist supporting the CLT and affiliated programs.
  2. Consults with the CLT Director and staff to evaluate new technologies for strategic planning of CLT IT needs.
  3. Conducts needs assessments and develops comprehensive IT plans, including support strategies for language departments and labs.
  4. Participates in conceptualizing technology projects for sponsored funding and supports sponsored projects.
  5. Recommends, develops, and maintains custom applications supporting language learning, teaching, and research, including web-based applications with databases.
  6. Oversees projects to develop specialized software or multimedia products.
  7. Manages server backup and restore procedures to ensure data integrity.
  8. Supervises student assistants supporting CLT IT initiatives.
  9. Advises faculty and staff on IT-related hires, research lab specifications, and online research projects.
  10. Collaborates with a peer IT Specialist to oversee network and server systems, diagnosing and resolving connectivity issues.
  11. Sets technical standards, documentation, and user guidelines for servers and web applications.
  12. Oversees installation, configuration, and maintenance of web server infrastructure in cloud and on-premises environments.
  13. Defines technical requirements for networking, hardware, and software; advises on resource allocation.
  14. Adapts technologies to establish hardware interfaces for language learning, teaching, and research.
  15. Ensures network security standards are met and applies updates promptly.
  16. Evaluates user needs to develop technical requirements.
  17. Provides complex support for hardware, software, and audiovisual equipment used in language learning, teaching, and research.
  18. Develops and maintains software supporting language initiatives.
  19. Creates training programs for applications used in research and instruction.
  20. Ensures compliance with university policies, security standards, ADA requirements, and best practices in IT operations.
  21. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate degree in Computer Science or related field and 5 years of progressive IT experience, including system administration and software development; at least 2 years at a comparable payband.
  • Broad knowledge of IT concepts, principles, and methodologies.
  • Understanding of systems, hardware, and software related to IT administration and development.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and implement effective solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with diverse groups.
  • Leadership skills for supervising staff and managing projects.
  • Knowledge of IT applications across various situations.
  • Familiarity with database-driven web programming, database design, and maintenance.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as PHP, Python, and knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, SQL.
  • Ability to work variable hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of security procedures.
  • Experience with web design, digital signal processing, and research-related technologies.
  • Knowledge of open-source technologies and tools like Git.
  • Master's degree in related fields.
  • Relevant coursework in information sciences, linguistics, psychology, or media studies.
  • Experience with digital audio/video equipment.
