Job Summary

United Cerebral Palsy Association of Hawaii is seeking a full-time Special Education Teacher to join a multidisciplinary team. The role involves supporting and providing services for children from birth to age 3 with developmental delays or disabilities. Services are delivered in the child's natural environment, such as their home, daycare, or other community settings, primarily in the Honolulu area as part of Hawaii's Early Intervention Services (EI/EIS).

Special instruction services include but are not limited to:

  • Designing learning environments and activities that promote the infant's or toddler's acquisition of skills across developmental areas including cognitive processes and social interaction;
  • Curriculum planning involving the interaction of personnel, materials, and time and space to achieve the outcomes outlined in the child's IFSP;
  • Providing families with information, skills, and support to enhance the child's development across various areas;
  • Working with the child and family to promote development;
  • Conducting Multidisciplinary Development Evaluations (MDE) to determine initial Part C Eligibility and identify current developmental levels, including assessments of cognition, physical health (vision and hearing), communication, social/emotional, and adaptive skills, along with reviewing pertinent medical records;
  • Functioning as a Primary Service Provider (PSP) to coordinate services and support the child's family in implementing the IFSP through coaching and collaboration with consultants;
  • Serving as a Consultant by utilizing coaching practices to support PSPs, parents, and caregivers in promoting the child's learning within daily routines;
  • Participating in IFSP meetings and other related meetings (e.g., Family Support Team, Joint Visit Planning, Transition meetings) to discuss the child's progress.

Position Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Special Education (SPED) from an accredited program; no Hawaii license required.

Personnel Qualifications Exception:

  • Degree in Elementary Education (Bachelor's and Master's) with a focus on Early Childhood or Special Education, or
  • Degree in Early Childhood (Bachelor's and Master's) with at least one (1) course in behavioral management with a minimum grade of ā€œCā€, and
  • 5th Year Teaching Certification with a focus on Early Childhood or Special Education.
