The Hawaii State Department of Education seeks highly qualified teachers. Except for designated Career and Technology Education (CTE) roles, a Bachelor's Degree is required to apply for teaching, librarian, or counselor positions.
If hired without completing a Teacher's Education Program, you have up to 3 years to obtain a valid Hawaii teaching license. You must enroll in an approved program and demonstrate active pursuit of Hawaii licensing requirements annually, as set by the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board (HTSB). It is your responsibility to ensure the program aligns with your teaching role. Upon hire, you must have a valid Hawaii teaching license or Emergency Hire Permit.
