Serves in a trainee capacity, receiving orientation and training in the principles, methods, and techniques of community planning; and performs other related duties as required.
This class represents the entry level in the Planner series and differs from Planner II in that the Planner I performs specific and limited research assignments designed to provide experience in professional planning work. In contrast, the Planner II performs fact-finding and simple analysis work, assisting higher-level planners in conducting various research studies and surveys pertinent to community planning.
The following are examples of duties and are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in this class. The omission of specific duties does not preclude management from assigning such duties if they are a logical part of the role:
A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in urban or regional planning, architecture, civil engineering, economics, sociology, public administration, or a related field.
Possession of a valid motor vehicle driver's license (equivalent to State of Hawaii, Type 3) may be required for specific positions.
Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper for the performance of the duties.
