Job Description

Hitachi Rail is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated O&M Rail Safety Manager based in Pearl City, HI. The ideal candidate will handle a variety of engineering tasks, from administrative to strategic, in a fast-paced environment.

Accountabilities

  1. Update and improve Safety Management System Programs and PTASP in line with SSOA and FTA standards.
  2. Supervise safety aspects of rail projects.
  3. Lead accident investigations and recommend corrective actions.
  4. Review and update Rail Accident Investigation Procedures annually.
  5. Oversee the Project's Safety Rules Compliance Program.
  6. Interpret and recommend changes to safety policies and procedures.
  7. Manage Rail Internal Safety Audits to ensure compliance with SSOA and FTA.
  8. Maintain emergency preparedness standards for Operations and Maintenance.
  9. Provide safety leadership to Rail Operations and Maintenance teams.
  10. Develop safety and hazard analyses, recommending improvements.
  11. Train and oversee safety initiatives among rail personnel.
  12. Ensure compliance with OSHA, FTA, FRA, and SSOA safety regulations.
  13. Update and maintain Rail Operations Rulebook and SOPs.
  14. Guide Safety Committees and Safety Certification Review processes.
  15. Prepare reports for senior management.
  16. Engage with industry groups to stay current on safety trends and regulations.
  17. Promote safety awareness and procedures among employees.
  18. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • 8-10 years of progressive safety-related rail operations experience, including 3 years of supervision.
  • Deep knowledge of rail operations, vehicles, and systems, including commuter and high-speed rail.
  • Excellent communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • SMS training is required.

Preferred Skills/Knowledge

  • Experience in transit safety or system safety engineering.
  • NIMS Certifications (IS-100.b, IS-200.b, IS-265, IS-700.a, IS-800c).

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Safety Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.

English-Proficient

Salary Range

$105,800 - $158,800, depending on experience, skills, and location.
