Other Conditions: Fall 2025, part-time, for lecturer candidate pool, non-tenure, assignments as needed, contingent on availability of funds, satisfactory performance, and staffing requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach assigned courses in the discipline.
- Maintain at least one office hour per week for each class taught.
- Provide instruction and guidance to meet student learning objectives, prepare course syllabus, and reports related to teaching and student progress.
- Work under supervision of discipline coordinator/division chairperson to integrate teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area.
- Participate in student and peer evaluations and conduct self-assessment of teaching effectiveness.
- Uphold community college principles and philosophy.
- Be available for evening and weekend teaching assignments, on-campus, off-campus at military bases, secondary education sites (high schools), and/or online courses. This position is not remote. Teaching on military bases requires Department of Defense security clearance; teaching for Early College courses at DOE schools requires background checks.
Minimum Qualifications
- Degree must be in the subject area unless a related field is listed. If qualified applicants are unavailable, exceptions may be considered.
- Master's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Technologies, or Construction Management; OR Bachelor's degree in these fields plus three years of related experience; OR Associate's degree plus five years of related experience; OR 15 college credits plus seven years of related experience including training.
Desirable Qualifications
- Teaching experience at the community college level.
- Experience working with community college students.
- Relevant work experience related to the course.
- Effective communication skills.
- Knowledge of competency-based instruction and behavioral objectives.
- Experience working with Hawaii's diverse student population.
- Proficiency with instructional technology including LMS, CRM, Early Alert, and presentation software.
- Willingness to adapt to new technology platforms.
