Temporary/Permanent: Temporary

Other Conditions: Fall 2025, part-time, for lecturer candidate pool, non-tenurial, assignments as needed, contingent on availability of funds, satisfactory performance, and staffing needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Teach assigned courses in the discipline.
  2. Maintain at least one office hour per week for each class taught.
  3. Provide instruction and guidance to meet student learning objectives, prepare course syllabus, and report on teaching and student progress.
  4. Work under supervision of discipline coordinator/division chairperson to integrate teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area.
  5. Participate in student and peer evaluations, as well as self-assessment of teaching effectiveness.
  6. Uphold community college principles and philosophy.
  7. Be available for evening and weekend teaching assignments, on-campus, off-campus at military bases, secondary education sites, and/or online courses. Note: This is not a remote position. Teaching at military bases may require a Department of Defense security clearance; teaching for Early College courses may require background checks.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Degree must be in the relevant subject area unless a related field is specified. Exceptions may be considered if qualified applicants are unavailable.
  2. Master's degree in Speech, Communicology, Communication, Communication Studies, or Speech Communication.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Community college teaching experience.
  • Ability to work effectively with community college students.
  • Relevant work experience.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Familiarity with competency-based instruction and behavioral objectives.
  • Experience working with Hawai'i's diverse student population.
  • Proficiency with instructional technology, including LMS, CRM, Early Alert, and presentation software.
  • Willingness to adapt to new technology platforms.
