For its next executive director, Hawaiian Islands Ministries (HIM) seeks adevoted Christ-follower who is an experienced visionary leader, exemplifies humility, and eager to build bridges across denominational, racial, cultural, and generational differences. Celebrating 40-plus years, HIM gathers, connects, and encourages the diversely gifted children of God as “many yet one in Christ.”
To achieve its mission, HIM has provided conferences, seminars, workshops, webinars, and podcasts led by leading voices in the Church today.
The Roles for the Executive Director
VISIONARY STRATEGIC LEADER
Embody the mission of HIM and engage the board in setting the strategic direction
Provide a vision for platforms and modalities that further the mission of HIM
Lead the development of initiatives that drive the ministry's vision and mission
Provide clarity to staff and stakeholders through a well-articulated strategic plan
BRIDGE BUILDER
Through empathetic listening, connect with ministry leaders and the community
Intentionally build relationships and bridges to unify across differences
Provide a clear picture for ecumenical church partnerships that lift up the whole Kingdom, that raise the tide for everyone
FUNDRAISER
Build relationships with current donors
Cultivate relationships with individual donors and foundation funders
ADMINISTRATOR
Oversee budget development and achieving financial targets
Create structures and systems to serve the staff and community effectively and efficiently
HIM needs an Executive Director who...
●first and foremost, is after God's heart. They have deep theological understanding rooted in Scripture. They are sound in their love for Jesus practicing a Christ-centered prayer life. They are passionate for unity in the body of Christ and have genuine empathy for church leaders.
●values cultural nuances. They are familiar with Hawai‘iculture including the native culture and the importance of ‘ohana. At the same time, they are also aware of broader cultural issues of the day and are very well-read.
●leads generously and graciously. They are humble, meaning they show respect, are genuine, withhold from dominating conversations, are willing to say they are wrong, and are aware of their flaws. They have exceptional EQ. They are a keen listener who loves and “sees” people. They are relational; they radiate warmth and aloha. They don't take themselves too seriously and seek constructive feedback to speak into their blind spots.
●casts a vision and guides change. They are a visionary change agent who is adaptable and willing to learn. They are innovative, creative and entrepreneurial. They have a growth mindset demonstrated through lifelong learning. They are a resilient risk taker.
●builds cohesive teams. They prioritize relationships and teamwork to foster a community that cultivates curiosity, trust, and collaboration. They are approachable and recognize others' giftedness to select the right people for the right role.
●can administrate. They have project management capabilities to help staff prioritize, plan, and execute. They hold staff and themselves accountable to those plans. They are responsive in their communication with staff and stakeholders.
Qualifications
●Proven experience in:
o navigating conversations with voices of different faith traditions or viewpoints
o visionary leadership
●Familiarity or experience with Hawai‘iculture preferred
●Pastoral or ministry experience preferred
