The authorized level of the position is School Bus Transportation Officer III. Applications are being accepted down to the School Bus Transportation Officer II in the event of recruiting difficulties.

Salary Range:

School Bus Transportation Officer II, SR-16: $4,403.00 per month
School Bus Transportation Officer III, SR-18: $4,758.00 per month
  1. Independently responsible for the scheduling, routing, enforcement and inspection of a district student bus subsidy program, under the jurisdiction of the Comptroller.
  2. Responsible for the interpretation of departmental and county policies, rules, ordinances and procedures relevant to student transportation.
  3. Conducts inspections of carriers to ensure proper mechanical condition of vehicles, maintenance of appropriate licenses and certificates, and conformance to operational standards.
  4. Provides recommendations to the Director of the bus subsidy program as to budgetary proposals and changes in policies and penalties to be exacted from carriers.
  5. Maintains effective relationships with various governmental agencies, public carriers, education officials and the public to resolve complaints concerning services and to implement operational procedures.
  6. Receives direction in regards to policy determination, priorities and unprecedented situations.
General Experience: One (1) year of progressively responsible work experience which demonstrated knowledge of inspection or investigation methods and techniques which involved checking for compliance/noncompliance with laws, rules and regulations; mathematics which includes multiplication and division; ability to coordinate a number of detail-oriented tasks; read, understand, explain and apply rules and regulations; follow oral and written instructions; prepare clear and concise reports; and deal tactfully with others.

Specialized Experience: None for Level II; and, for Level III, one (1) year of progressively responsible work experience in a bus transportation program which involved the scheduling and routing of transportation services; the inspection of the carriers/vehicles for compliance with applicable rules, regulations and laws; identifying noncompliance and suggesting appropriate corrective measures; and investigating complaints of unsafe driving practices, faulty equipment conditions, and rider services.

Substitution of Education for General Experience: Graduation with a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required General Experience.

Substitution of Specialized Experience for General Experience: Excess Specialized Experience of the type and quality described above may be substituted for the required General Experience on a year-for-year basis.

Driver's License Requirement: Applicant must have a current, valid driver's license.Salary: The advertised salary is based on full-time employment and includes shortage and school year differentials, if applicable.

Requirements: Applicants must meet all the requirements for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified. Unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. Calculation of experience is based on full-time, 40-hour workweeks. Part-time experience is pro-rated. Example: Twelve months of experience at 20 hours/week is equivalent to six months of experience, not one year. Also, hours worked in excess of 40 hours/week will not be credited. Example: Twelve months of experience at 60 hours/week is equivalent to one year of experience, not one and a half years.

Temporary Assignment: Claims of Temporary Assignment (TA) experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements must be verified and attached to the application using one of the options below:
  1. A copy of the applicant's TA History Report or equivalent system-generated report;
  2. A signed letter from the applicant's supervisor that includes the applicant's name, his/her TA job title, the TA start and end dates (from mm/yy to mm/yy), his/her specific TA duties performed, and either the TA hours worked per week or total TA hours worked; or,
  3. Copies of the applicant's signed SF-10 Forms.
