JOB TITLE: Safety Manager

PROGRAM: Administration

REPORTS TO: VP of Administration

JOB OVERVIEW: Develop, implement, manage, and monitor a foundation-wide safety program, which includes technical support, inspections, training, and compliance with applicable local, state, and federal safety regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Continually research, develop, and update comprehensive written safety policies, manuals (i.e. Safety & Health, Ground Guide Protocol, Blood Borne Pathogens, hazard Communications, Emergency Preparedness, etc.), programs, procedures, and forms that ensure the Foundation maintains exceptional safety performance and HIOSH/OSHA compliance at all times by regularly checking OSHA and HIOSH websites;
  • Travel as necessary to all PIDF locations to effectively administer all aspects of PIDF safety program to appropriately audit and monitor safety and compliance by conducting walk-around inspections, employee interviews, and sharing safety best practices through coaching and training of various PIDF personnel;
  • Establish, educate, train and motivate foundation-wide safety committee representing all programs and departments of PIDF to assist in implementing safety program, meeting at least monthly and partnering with PIDF's workers compensation carrier;
  • Develop, institute and maintain a schedule of annual program training, and collaborate with the safety committee to establish annual safety goals. Utilize safety meetings to consult and identify new or continuing safety concerns; responsible to track all completed safety training and participation;
  • Develop, compile, and distribute relevant information regarding key safety and compliance metrics to collaborate with and report to workers compensation (WC) insurance carrier and PIDF management to ensure the lowest possible premiums;
  • Utilize newsletter, social media, and other venues of communication to promote PIDF's health & safety culture;
  • Advise, conduct, facilitate, and/or participate in the investigation of any reported incident or accident, ensuring all required forms are completed, and provide feedback and relevant training, as well as regulatory and compliance assistance including recording on annual OSHA 300 log and ensure posting compliance;
  • Act as liaison with external legal and regulatory personnel and agencies as necessary; serve as the main point of contact for any HIOSH audits;
  • Conduct ergonomic assessments and recommend corrective actions to mitigate or eliminate risk of injury;
  • Develop, update, and monitor a fleet safety program for the foundation, to include a vehicle maintenance program and driver safety training ensuring all necessary safety documentation is maintained.

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Attend safety training and conference calls;
  • Work on special projects and any PIDF special events;
  • Continually assess effectiveness of safety program and create new training/policies and procedures based on needs of specific groups;
  • Actively search for creative opportunities to build an involved safety culture in the Foundation;
  • Work collaboratively with insurance providers to expand and support the scope of the safety program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, or related field required;
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office or related products;
  • Proficient in graphics program preferred; photography and videography skills a plus;
  • A minimum of two (2) years working knowledge of OSHA requirements and experience implementing safety regulations required;
  • 3-5 years working with vehicle/equipment repair/maintenance preferred;
  • Certification in safety and/or maintenance area highly preferred;
  • Familiarity in social media and/or other communication venues is highly preferred;
  • Must have access to a vehicle, have a valid driver's license, a safe and responsible driving record, and current no-fault auto insurance, with at least $100K in bodily injury liability per person and $25K in property damage liability.

WORK HOURS:

  • Monday through Friday, 8:00a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or as otherwise determined by the supervisor;
  • Position requires regular and predictable attendance;
  • Attendance during evenings or weekends at various times required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Office setting;
  • Outdoors (inspecting vehicles, site visits, training staff, and special events);
  • Travel to the neighbor islands is required;
  • Travel to the continental U.S. may be required.
