Medical Billing Supervisor

SCHEDULE: 40 hours, Monday-Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM

LOCATION: 444 Harrison Ave. Boston and other regional locations as needed. This position is eligible for hybrid work pursuant to PSI's Remote Work Policy and is “non-essential” in the event of emergency or weather.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Supervisor of Medical Billing will be responsible for ensuring that all aspects of PSI's billing processes are efficient and effective. They will also need to develop partnerships and financial awareness within the department and with PSI's finance team.

The position will be expected to understand and address any compliance issues and interface with external agencies as needed. With their colleagues in Medical Billing, they will be part of the customer service / training team for PSI's internal staff and departments. In addition, the position will have direct responsibility for staff and will be expected to build and maintain a cohesive team who are cross-trained.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education/training in third party payer requirements and functions, including significant experience in Electronic Health Records processes and systems.

PREFERRED:

  • Significant supervisory experience (4+ years) in a claims/medical billing environment

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED:

  • Strong ability to train and supervise the work of employees; effectively organize, prioritize, and schedule tasks to ensure practice timelines are met
  • Exceptional initiative and able to work under little or no supervision
  • High level of computer literacy and knowledge of Electronic Health Records including analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of Commercial and MassHealth coverage types, Accountable Care Organizations and Managed Care Organizations
  • Working knowledge of securing healthcare authorizations
  • Able to apply knowledge of medical insurance/healthcare terminology, billing and collections work in a healthcare system, health insurance and/or medical practice to PSI's needs and staff trainings
  • Possess knowledge and understanding of rules and regulations (state and federal) affecting Behavioral Health services, medical billing and insurance verification
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of revenue cycle, collections and payment posting, medical billing, Medicare and Medicaid, and third party payers
  • Thorough knowledge and working experience of CPT and ICD9 codes, 835, 837, HCFA 1500.
  • Solid knowledge of basic accounting principles and business management to be able to collaborate with Finance.

PREFERRED:

  • Knowledge of CSP-HI, Stabilization, Recovery Coach and other Behavioral Health Services
  • Working knowledge of payer portals and functionality
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2
