The Program Administrator for the Water System Operations Division functions as the division manager and administrator. Water System Operations is responsible for the operation, control, maintenance and repair of the pumping plants for the BWS island wide water system; regulation and diverting of water from the source supply through the various storage facilities via mechanical, electrical and telecommunications equipment; mechanical and electrical design of facilities and equipment; compliance with water quality standards and testing; control over fleet and equipment; conduct of engineering studies, analyses and research; and collaboration with BWS security to safeguard all facilities (e.g., pumping stations, reservoirs, etc.) and equipment from unauthorized access, natural disasters and other emergency situations. With the extensive scope and complexity of the water system, the position is responsible for directing and administering the Water System Operation division and its related programs.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT

A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering or a related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

  1. Five (5) years of registered professional mechanical, electrical or civil engineering experience.
  2. Two (2) years of experience which shall have involved the operation and evaluation of water or related systems and pumping or industrial plant machinery and equipment.
  3. Three (3) years of experience in a managerial/administrative capacity.

The above experience may have been gained concurrently.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT

Possession of a valid license as a professional engineer in the State of Hawaii. Applicants with a current out-of-state professional engineer license must obtain their Hawaii license prior to appointment.
