Salary: $10,075 to $16,124 per month (EM-07, Minimum to Maximum)

The Planning Program Administrator I class administers a program of land use planning; or assists in the direction and coordination of the State's major program of public planning and the development and evaluation of program plans and activities; and performs other duties as required.
This class involves the overall administration of a program of public planning regarding statewide land use. The class also involves the work of a first assistant to the administrator of the State's major program of public planning with responsibility for assisting in directing and coordinating projects and work activities within and between the several major segments of the program in order to achieve valid and timely results.
Work includes establishment of project schedules and ensuring adherence thereto in all subordinate work units, and reviewing completed projects for soundness of conclusions and consistency of results. It also includes the review of operations and the improvement of all aspects of operations. Significant public contact is required in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other jurisdictions and agencies, public officials and private groups and individuals.
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:
Legal Authorization To Work: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
Basic Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
Specialized Experience: Four and one-half (4-1/2) years of progressively responsible professional public planning experience which included the collection and evaluation of an extensive variety of physical, social, economic and environmental data, determination of public opinion and general community objectives and policies to obtain a comprehensive prospective of conditions and identify problems and opportunities in the area(s) of concern.

Such experience should demonstrate possession of the knowledge and general research sources and sources of environmental socioeconomic information, practices of public planning, and the ability to analyze facts and develop sound conclusions therefrom.
At least one (1) year of the experience must have been comparable to the fully independent Planner V level in the State.
Supervisory Experience: One (1) year of professional planning experience which included:
Administrative Experience: One (1) year of experience in the field of planning which involved active participation in and major responsibility for the development, management, evaluation, execution and coordination of planning policies, activities and programs.
