I. Introduction

As a key member of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs' (VCAA) team, the Dean directs, coordinates, and evaluates the activities of personnel, including support staff, in the Applied Workforce Technology, Health Education, and Continuing Education divisions of the College. This position serves as the senior manager, lead facilitator, and coordinator for these divisions and is responsible for all administrative matters, including personnel management, space utilization, financial management, program reviews, and budget planning and execution.

II. Duties and Responsibilities

Academic Leadership and Management

  • Directs and collaborates with division chairs to plan, design, and deliver quality instructional and non-credit programming aligned with the College's mission and strategic plan.
  • Provides leadership in recruitment, development, evaluation, and retention of qualified faculty and staff.
  • Leads the development of new courses and programs, ensuring alignment with the College's strategic plan.
  • Coordinates implementation and promotion of educational and training programs for Kaua'i's adult population.
  • Plans and supervises apprenticeship and journeyman upgrading programs.
  • Directs accreditation self-study and program reviews of assigned divisions.
  • Collaborates with other college officials on various initiatives and programs.
  • Represents the college at community and campus events.
  • Participates in the college's shared governance framework.
  • Supervises the PAC Theatre Manager and other auxiliary enterprises.

Administrative Support

  • Works with administrative staff to address human resources and facilities issues.
  • Plans, administers, and controls budgets.
  • Responds to requests for information and adjudicates disputes and grievances.
  • Coordinates grant writing and supervises grant-funded projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent from a regionally or nationally accredited institution.
  • Attained the academic rank of associate professor or have a comparable professional experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with various constituents.
  • Knowledge of community college philosophy and contemporary challenges.
  • Ability to make data-informed decisions.
