This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company's locations: North Shore Preserve, set on Kaua'i, Hawaii.

North Shore Preserve is seeking a Farm Manager to join the Horticulture/Farm Management Department.

The Farm Manager will be responsible for the overall management of the farm, organizing the seeding, growing, and harvesting schedule of local fruits, vegetables, and flowers. The Farm manager will provide all team members and guests with an "above and beyond" service during their time at the garden. In this role, you will be part of creating the Discovery Land Company experience for our members and fellow employees.

Key Responsibilities

1. Farm and Garden Management
   1. Responsible for the overall management of the daily maintenance of plants, vegetables, fruits, and flowers to include planting, weeding, mulching, watering, and harvesting.
   2. Manage the seeding schedule for all fruits and vegetables, knowledge of the local county best practices for growing and timing of crop rotation.
   3. Manage care for farm animals to include but not limited to providing food, water, and cleaning pens/cages.
   4. Scheduling repairs, maintenance, and replacement of equipment and machinery.
   5. Report any safety or maintenance concerns immediately to the GM and Executive Chef.
   6. Maintain cleanliness and appearance for work area throughout the day.
   7. Develop continual improvement programs to assist in upgrading the farm ambiance and overall look.
   8. Expert in the operation and maintenance of small garden tools and machinery such as tractors and tillers, weedwhacker, mower, chain saw and other farm equipment.
   9. Ensuring seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and other supplies are regularly restocked.
   10. Fruit Tree maintenance, keeping the trees healthy and thriving. Coordinating with Pig remediation and protecting trees.
   11. Collaborating with executive leadership team to prepare budgets and financial reports.
2. Food and Beverage Collaboration
   1. Communicate harvesting schedules to the Food and Beverage, Culinary, and Member Services departments.
   2. Monitor harvest weights and share with Executive Chef.
   3. Work with the garden team and culinary team to create and execute new offerings, farm dinners and activities.
   4. Stock and re-stock items as needed throughout the day.
   5. Attend department meetings and trainings as necessary.
3. Member Involvement and Experience
   1. Showcase the farm/barn/garden areas to members, guests, and prospects by talking about the offerings and benefits.
   2. Respond to all member requests promptly and with care.
   3. Create an engaged guided farm tour program that we could offer to members and children.
4. Farm and Garden Staff Management
   1. Hire, train, direct, and supervise farm staff.
   2. Ensuring all staff adheres to health and safety regulations.
   3. Complete daily set-up and breakdown of all of the department's activities, monitor team and their productivity.
   4. Be able to create and carry out the farm lab vision, contributing to the growth of the farm phases, planting more fruit trees in accordance with permaculture and the landscape.
   5. Provide consulting services to other Discovery Land Company projects as requested.

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree in agriculture, Horticulture, or a related field.
• Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in farm management.
• Strong understanding of greenhouse, hydroponic systems and farming practices.
• Ability to operate farm equipment and full-sized tractors.
• Basic diesel and gas engine mechanical knowledge.
• Basic repairs and maintenance of outbuildings.
• Strong motivation for sustainability.

• Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Long hours may be required due to business demands.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Ability to stay calm and focused during the busiest of times.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, and lifting and carrying items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.

The compensation for the position is: $85,000 - $90,000 + Bonus
