Our Project Engineers support construction activities by planning, organizing and implementing those management duties (i.e., project controls systems, engineering interface, subcontract and materials management, purchasing, scheduling).

District Overview

Kiewit's Northwest District is headquartered in Vancouver, Washington. We primarily perform heavy civil projects specializing in earth moving, transportation, roadways, water resources, and underground utilities. We are looking for hard working individuals with a passion for construction who aren't afraid to get their hands dirty!

Responsibilities

  1. With regard to that portion of the work assigned, develop complete understanding of contract plans and specifications.
  2. Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered. Take corrective actions as needed.
  3. Develop and maintain the project master schedule using appropriate techniques and scheduling software with input from other project management personnel.
  4. Manage document control; receive and log in new issue drawings and other contract documents; maintain document control log.
  5. Review new issue drawings and contract documents for change of conditions; quantify impact of changes and review with supervisor; distribute new issues to field.
  6. Prepare monthly cost projections using information generated from project management systems and prepare quarterly cash flow projections.
  7. Improve project operations by recommending, as appropriate, better methods, staffing and procedural changes.
  8. Act as managing project engineer/coordinator on multiple projects, providing supervision and on-the-job training for lower level engineers.
  9. Read and understand plans and specifications. Visualize two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
  10. Manage and support project team including direct reports and others as needed.
  11. Help drive the company environmental health and safety programs at the project level, driving a safety-oriented approach to work.
  12. Assist in compiling, processing, and confirming daily labor timesheets.

Qualifications

  1. Ability to travel and relocate as needed.
  2. Minimum 3 years of construction field experience, preferably in Heavy Civil construction (roadway, concrete, asphalt, earthworks, Bridge, Rail, Water or Wastewater).
  3. Work experience as a project engineer, field engineer, or superintendent.
  4. Undergraduate degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related.
  5. Ability to read, analyze and identify discrepancies on engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  6. Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments.
  7. Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative.
  8. Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time.
  9. Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity.
  10. Passion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt.
  11. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  12. Team player with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines, goals and objectives.
  13. Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail.

Base Compensation: $90,000/yr - $130,000/yr (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location).
