Punahou School's Extended Learning Programs are an important extension of a broad, deep, and balanced educational program. Student engagement in learning can be heightened by a rich extracurricular and co-curricular life, and our after school programs provide students with ample opportunities for exploration, experiencing, example and excellence/expertise.

The Music School collaborates to fulfill an important part of the Punahou School mission: to develop and enhance creativity and appreciation of the arts. The Music School is seeking passionate and experienced teachers, who are committed to excellence in teaching and learning. A Music School Teacher will:

1. Instruct private and/or group violin lessons and classes
2. Assess students
3. Plan and organize resources for lessons
4. Select appropriate repertoire (sometimes in relation to assessments/examinations/competitions)
5. Adapt lesson resources and tailor teaching methods to the needs of the individual
6. Provide an effective, varied, and enjoyable range of activities to further students' musical and technical abilities
7. Set clear goals for student progress and self-assessment
8. Complete written feedback reports and assessments
9. Encourage students to perform in weekly recitals and studio recitals
10. Organize annual studio or inter-studio recitals
11. Communicate with parents and academic staff and network to maintain contacts
12. Teach with the use of technology when appropriate
13. Keep up-to-date knowledge of pedagogy research and resources
14. Be an active member in professional organizations
15. Be active in the music teaching community
16. Attend faculty meetings

Position Details:

1. Work Year: 10.5 Months
2. School Year: 2025-2026 - Beginning Summer 2025
3. Work Hours: Monday - Saturday, hours will vary based on scheduled lessons
4. Starting Hourly Rate: $50/Hour

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in music or combination of education and experience. Master's degree preferred.
2. Three (3) years of successful teaching experience in a private setting preferred.
3. Demonstrated performance and teaching skills.
4. Suzuki violin teacher training and background strongly preferred.
5. An enthusiasm for music and an ability to inspire students' life-long love and learning of music.
6. A willingness to collaborate and learn together with fellow teaching colleagues.
7. A commitment to continual professional development.
8. Highly effective communication skills, both interpersonal and written communication.
