Performs moderately difficult professional engineering work in the design, construction, maintenance and operation of civil engineering projects; prepares designs, plans, specifications, estimates and reports; and performs other duties as required.

There are multiple vacancies in various departments in the City and County of Honolulu:

• One (1) vacancy with the Honolulu Board of Water Supply, Capital Projects Division, Support Branch.
• One (1) vacancy with the Department of Transportation Services, Transportation Mobility Division.

***For the Department of Transportation Services, the salary range is $5,784 to $6,768 per month.***

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:

Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in an engineering specialty. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.

Verification Requirement: You must submit evidence of your education in order to be given credit. If selected for the position, you must submit a copy of your diploma, official transcript which shows the embossed seal, or applicable FCE prior to hiring. Education requirements must be met at the time of application. All information on your documentation must be legible and complete in order to be given credit.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

Two year(s) of non-registered professional (post-bachelor's degree) civil engineering experience. Such experience shall demonstrate knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices; engineering mathematics; engineering mechanics and the mechanics of materials; hydraulic, structural, mechanical, electrical and sanitary engineering principles to the extent that these apply to the general field of civil engineering; and the ability to do civil engineering design work or supervise construction and inspection activities; analyze stresses and determine the required foundations and structural features; supervise a small group of subordinate professional or subprofessional employees; prepare engineering and inspection reports.

Substitution: A Master's degree in Civil Engineering from a regionally-accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required non-registered professional civil engineering experience.

Unofficial transcripts are acceptable. However, if selected for the position, you must submit a copy of your diploma, official transcript which shows the embossed seal, or applicable FCE prior to hiring. Experience requirements (including any allowable substitutions) must be met at the time of application. All information on your documentation must be legible and complete in order to be given credit.

NON-QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE:

Having the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as qualifying for the position. Your overall experience must have been of such scope, level and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position. Work experience while in an engineering student intern position will not be creditable as equivalent to professional engineering experience.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
