Electrical Engineer, Utility T&D System Studies [BERMUDA]

Purpose

Bermuda Electric Light Company (BELCO), part of the Liberty family of companies, is looking for an experienced Electrical System Planning Engineer to optimize and enhance our transmission and distribution networks. This role offers the opportunity to develop and manage engineering projects from concept to execution, ensuring reliability, sustainability, and efficiency in our energy systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop system plans, estimate project costs, and manage projects through all phases—from planning to energization
• Design and implement innovative, cost-effective solutions for transmission and distribution challenges
• Analyze and enhance grid reliability, stability, and flexibility through system studies and engineering assessments
• Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to secure necessary easements, permits, and approvals
• Lead impact studies for renewable energy integrations, planned outages, and system expansions
• Support operational teams by applying advanced engineering techniques and best practices
• Identify opportunities for grid modernization, asset optimization, and process improvements
• Develop and maintain policies for performance targets, maintenance strategies, and reinforcement plans
• Work cross-functionally to improve procurement, system standards, and operational efficiencies
• Develop and manage the department budget, ensuring financial efficiency and alignment with company objectives
• Ensure compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations
• Perform other responsibilities as requested by leadership

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (Professional Engineer certification preferred)
• 10+ years of experience in electrical utility planning and engineering project management
• Strong knowledge of grid safety, utility standards, and electric utility operations
• Experience with renewable energy interconnection, system protection, and distribution planning
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to engage stakeholders and drive solutions
