About the Role:

The Information Technology team at Confluent is dedicated to maintaining a secure and efficient work environment by ensuring that enterprise-wide systems and technology are always operational. This team manages Confluent's enterprise systems and infrastructure while providing end-user support. Operating in a cloud-first environment, the IT group oversees a combination of on-premises and public cloud infrastructure and a suite of best-in-class SaaS applications.

As the Director of Corporate Engineering, you will lead a globally distributed team of employees and contractors responsible for managing Confluent's enterprise-wide, employee-facing technology platforms. You will drive architecture, design, planning, and implementation for infrastructure and SaaS applications across the organization. Reporting to the Head of IT, this role oversees four key pillars:

1. Identity & Access Management
2. SaaS Platform Administration

What You Will Do:

1. Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute roadmaps, ensuring the performance and availability of corporate IT systems, infrastructure, and SaaS applications.
2. Team Development: Provide mentorship, coaching, and professional development opportunities to direct reports.
3. Infrastructure Oversight: Ensure cloud network and server infrastructure stability and efficiency across Confluent's global facilities.
4. Automation & Integration: Develop scripting or low-code solutions to streamline automation and integration processes.
5. Enterprise Application Management: Oversee the administration of productivity and collaboration applications, including Google Workspace, Zoom, Slack, Atlassian, and Okta.
6. Atlassian Cloud Deployment: Manage large-scale Jira, Jira Service Management, and Confluence deployments.
7. Endpoint Management: Oversee endpoint management systems such as JAMF, Intune, and Munki.
8. Compliance & Security: Implement processes to support third-party audit controls and maintain compliance with SOC2, ISO27001, and SOX frameworks.
9. Project Leadership: Lead projects from ideation and design through development, implementation, and ongoing support.
10. Documentation & Reporting: Maintain system documentation, roadmaps, and process runbooks. Develop dashboards, reports, and KPIs to measure system performance and team productivity.
11. Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with teams across engineering, information security, and other departments to align IT strategies with business objectives.
12. On-Call Support: Participate in a recurring on-call rotation to ensure system reliability.

What You Will Bring:

1. Experience: 5+ years as an IT Senior Manager or Director leading direct reports, with at least 8+ years as a Systems Engineer handling increasing responsibilities in a fast-growing mid-size enterprise; prior Director experience preferred.
2. Infrastructure Expertise: Proficiency in virtualization, storage, networking, firewalls, wireless technologies, and various server operating systems.
3. Cloud Technologies: Deep experience with AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
4. Atlassian Administration: Hands-on experience managing Atlassian products, including administration, project configuration, and workflow management.
5. Security & Compliance: Familiarity with security technologies such as SASE, CASB, IPS/IDS, IAM, and SSO.
6. SaaS & Integration: Strong background in integrating SaaS solutions for productivity, collaboration, communication, and security.
7. Scripting & Automation: Proficiency in scripting languages like Python, Bash, and others.
8. Project Management: Experience with Agile methodologies.
9. Technical Acumen: Familiarity with open-source platforms and tools.
10. Communication Skills: Strong ability to communicate, present, and document complex concepts effectively.
11. Stakeholder Engagement: Proven ability to collaborate with individuals at all levels of the organization.
12. Self-Starter: Ability to manage multiple complex projects independently from inception to completion.
