POSITION SUMMARY:

Retail Store Associates play a meaningful role in the retail hardware and lumber business. Working independently, providing friendly customer service, maximizing store sales by having product knowledge and focusing on the needs of the customers throughout their shopping experience. This includes assisting customers with all purchases, refunds, exchanges, and other related needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides a branded and inviting first impression for customers by making sure all areas of the store are always presentable. Embodies the City Mill tidy, clean and neat image.
  • Provides fast and friendly service with a sense of urgency from start to finish. Provides attentive, courteous, and professional service while maintaining a high-level of product knowledge and balancing day-to-day tasks.
  • Proficient with POS system, knowledge of cashiering and all POS functions to provide customers with a quick and accurate checkout. Communicates effectively with customers on return policies and possesses skills to assist diverse groups of customers through difficult situations.
  • Provides solutions and recommends displays and product improvements based on customer trends to increase sales.
  • Possesses strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to multi-task daily tasks (stocking, zoning, merchandising etc.) with customer service demands.
  • Maintains flexibility in learning other functions throughout the store. Committed to continuous training and development of skills including but not limited to product knowledge and selling strategies.
  • Reports all problems pertaining to pricing of merchandise, including bar coding and other discrepancies immediately to appropriate supervisor or manager.
  • Monitors all sales space for proper replenishing of merchandise. In accordance with procedures, replaces merchandise as appropriate to the level of sales. Checks to make sure that appropriate merchandise is properly marked with price tags or SKU number. Notifies management when products need reordering.
  • Protects company assets by following all policies and procedures. (Cashiering procedures, Internal and External Theft, etc.)
  • Answers incoming calls to the store and articulates the proper information to the customer. If necessary, directs the call to the requested party, takes an accurate and complete message, and/or relays the necessary information to the caller. Handles each call in a professional, courteous, and timely manner.
  • Flexibility to take on more tasks to help in other departments, window screen cutting, propane refill, paint counter, key cutting, lumber cutting, jalousie glass cutting, merchandise transfers and other tasks needed by store operations. Assists with "Buy Online, Pick-up in store" orders.
  • Takes on additional tasks as needed.


OTHER FUNCTIONS:
  • Provide customer assistance with lifting/ carrying large or bulky items.
  • Assists other team members as needed. Always demonstrates teamwork.
  • Assists with training other team members as needed and may assist with onboarding new team members as a training "Buddy".
  • Improves and maintains technical competencies as required by the position.


QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. High school degree.
  1. Minimum of twelve months of equivalent experience in a related field required (e.g. Customer Service, Retail, Sales, etc.)
  2. Ability to operate a cash register, calculator, telephone, and personal computer, as needed.


OTHER SKILLS:
  1. Excellent verbal communication skills, including listening. Must be able to project a clear and friendly voice.
  1. Excellent customer service and telephone skills. Must be able to smile and maintain a positive disposition, even when faced with difficult situations.
  1. Always adhere to company safety and security procedures.
  1. Ability to work effectively under pressure and maintain a high degree of accuracy, especially when the lines are long, or the Point-of-sales system goes down. Must be able to work effectively with difficult customers and work effectively with distractions.
  1. Well-organized and attentive to detail. Must be able to multi-task, handle cash register, answer phones, meet deadlines and assist customers in an effective and positive manner.
  1. Ability to analyze and solve problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions presented in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  1. Proven ability to work with mathematical concepts. Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Must be able to balance register at the end of each shift in a timely manner.

This position reports directly to the Store Supervisor. Daily, this position interacts with external and internal customers including managers and team members within various departments of the organization. Additionally, this position may interact with related industry vendors and consultants.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

This position works in a retail store environment with the following characteristics:

Air conditioning, fluorescent lighting, Moderate noise level, Dust, Fumes, Chemicals

While the company will strive to provide advance notice of all work schedules, this position will require you to work a varied schedule to include nights, weekends, and holidays as the workload dictates. No Retail Store Associate is guaranteed a specific shift, day of the week, or number of hours per week.
