The Field Technician is responsible for performing tasks associated with installation and/or maintenance of digital communication equipment. Responsibilities include but are not limited to new customer installations, service calls, de-installations, and network maintenance as directed by supervisors. The Field Technician will travel to customer sites to install, rearrange, and remove equipment and associated wiring; verify work-order information; and verify receipt of all necessary equipment and information. This position must interpret service orders, circuit diagrams, and electrical schematics; locate and repair equipment problems associated with trouble reports; load and test software; and test, adjust, and repair equipment, as necessary. This position requires regular use of circuit and microwave test equipment. Field Technicians have a high degree of technical expertise, usually with a specialization in wireless technology. This position requires some interisland travel, as well as occasional mainland travel. The ability to work a rotating on-call schedule with occasional weekend work is necessary. The successful candidate must be driven to learn new technologies and be capable of mastering tasks quickly, self-starting and dedicated to being part of a team.
Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities:
Pull, crimp, and power CAT5/CAT6, for indoor and outdoor applications, using standard cable practices
Mount/install racks, batteries, multiple types of mounts and related equipment following standard practices pack and unpack materials
Install antennas, radios, cameras, and other customer premises equipment
Program customer premises equipment using computer and tools provided
Troubleshoot and repair antenna systems and circuit problems both wireless and network related
Install transmission and switch equipment
Install waveguide
Maintain, troubleshoot, and install dehydrator systems
Terminate signal cable on DSX by performing wire wrapping and fiber optic cables to patch panel
Label all signal cable, fiber optic, and power cable
Have familiarity with multiple manufacturer's equipment to include but not limited to Nokia, Alcatel-Client Enterprise, Cisco, Client, Axis, Bridgewave, Cambium, Aviat
Perform walk downs, including sketches and/or picture taking and measurements
Must be able to pass manufacturers certification courses
Journeyman CET certification
Responsible for maintenance and use of company supplied hand and power tools PACIFIC NETWORK GROUP
Operate circuit and microwave test equipment and record results
Inventory tracking on vehicle level and installations
Responsible for safety and quality assurance
Daily driving and maintenance of company vehicle including bucket trucks
Maintain work area clean of debris
Prepare and submit all reports (i.e. timecards, expense reports, etc.) in an accurate and timely manner
Update supervisors and project managers in an informative manner daily
Maintain a professional, courteous, and responsible attitude to customers and fellow employees
Carry out routine and special assignments as directed by supervisor or project manager
Minimum Experience and Educational Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED certificate
1+ year of experience installing digital wireless equipment and/or related technical fields
Experienced with installing equipment racks, and grounding
Microwave and wireless radio frequency experience preferred
Strong Network troubleshooting skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Strong organizational and planning skills, and capable of managing several complex tasks at a time
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written & verbal
Strong customer service skills
Must be a team player and accept instruction
Ability and willingness to travel frequently up to 40%
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and altitudes
Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly
Ability to work on rooftops two stories and above
Certifications, Licenses and Additional Requirements:
Required to be on a rotating 24/7 on-call system support schedule
Daily driving and maintenance of company vehicle
Must maintain a valid driver's license with a safe driving record
Must have or be willing to obtain OSHA Construction Industry 10-Hour DOL Card
Must have or be willing to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification
May be required to obtain a bucket truck or aerial lift certification
Must be able to pass a background check and drug test
