Description:

Calling all Civil Engineers! The Department of Facility Maintenance (DFM), Storm Water Quality Division is recruiting for two Civil Engineer III positions located at Kapolei Hale.

These Positions Are Responsible For:

  • Professional engineering projects related to the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Storm Water Management Program.
  • Planning, design, construction management, product evaluation, research & development, system optimization, database management, and Geographical Information System (GIS) mapping.
  • These positions may also involve participation in periodic and temporary cross training and supplementary work exercises and activities in support of other branches within the division to comply with its regulatory obligations of the City's storm water permit.

There are two Civil Engineer III positions located in Honolulu with the Board of Water Supply.

  • One position in the Capital Projects Division, Design & Plans Review Branch, Design Section.
  • One position in the Water Resources Division, Long-Range Planning Branch.

Salary information:

  • For positions at the Honolulu Board of Water Supply: entry salary rate $6,528 per month.
  • For positions at the Department of Facility Maintenance: salary commensurate with applicable experience, pending approval: $6,528 to $7,317 per month.

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four‑year college or university with a bachelor's degree in an engineering specialty.

The education requirement must be met at the time of application. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Two years of non-registered professional civil engineering experience.

Such experience shall demonstrate knowledge of:

  • civil engineering principles and practices;
  • engineering mathematics;
  • engineering mechanics and the mechanics of materials;
  • hydraulic, structural, mechanical, electrical and sanitary engineering principles to the extent that these apply to the general field of civil engineering.

Such experience must also demonstrate the ability to:

  • do civil engineering design work or supervise construction and inspection activities;
  • analyze stresses and determine the required foundations and structural features;
  • supervise a small group of subordinate professional or subprofessional employees;
  • prepare engineering and inspection reports.

Substitution: A Master's degree in Civil Engineering from a regionally-accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required non-registered professional civil engineering experience.

Non-qualifying experience: Having the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as qualifying for the position. Your overall experience must have been of such scope, level and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position. Work experience while in an engineering student intern position will not be creditable as equivalent to professional engineering experience.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT: Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license, as required.

Your score will be based on the quality and quantity of your education, experience and/or other related job requirements and competencies applicable to the position.
