Founded in 1936 by Charles A. Moore and Wing-tsit Chan, the Department of Philosophy at the University of Hawaii at Manoa fosters dialogue between European/N. American and Eastern philosophers. It currently supports a BA and MA program, and doctoral work in Buddhist, Chinese, Indian, Islamic, Japanese, and Western philosophy. The campus aims to be a Native Hawaiian Place of Learning, integrating Native Hawaiian language, culture and values into its academic and campus environment.
