The role supports the Aircraft Systems (Fueling & Ramp Services) and Federal Fueling Business Lines within the Aviation & Federal (ANF) Global Practice. Burns & McDonnell is a leading consultant in aircraft fueling, involved in high-visibility projects at major airports and military bases worldwide. Our projects serve aviation, federal, transport, and automotive clients, including marine loading facilities, pipeline terminals, and gas stations.

The successful applicant will provide engineering and consulting services for clients across the US and US Government, working on projects ranging from small gas stations to large fuel depots. Responsibilities include creating electrical, instrumentation, and controls design deliverables.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing AC power systems, one-line diagrams, motor starter schematics, wiring diagrams, area classification, grounding, and lighting plans.
  • Designing electrical equipment such as service entrances, control centers, transformers, generators, transfer switches, and distribution centers.
  • Designing facility support systems including surveillance, access, lightning protection, and operations buildings.
  • Performing calculations for cable sizing, voltage drop, conduit fill, etc.
  • Analyzing electrical systems for load flow, short circuit, arc-flash, and breaker settings.

Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating with mechanical disciplines and developing Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams.
  • Developing control philosophies, alarm setpoints, and procurement comments.
  • Creating network diagrams, I/O lists, control narratives, cause & effect diagrams, and instrument specifications.
  • Setting performance criteria for PLCs and HMIs.

General responsibilities include:

  • Participating in proposal and scope development.
  • Estimating engineering effort and schedules.
  • Conducting site visits and developing conceptual designs.
  • Working with clients and vendors to complete deliverables.
  • Ensuring quality assurance and process improvements.
  • Providing leadership, training, and mentorship.
  • Supporting field activities during construction.
  • Assisting in business development and marketing.
  • Performing quality reviews of engineering documents.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited program and passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • At least 3 years of related experience, preferably in aviation fueling, federal fueling, midstream oil & gas, water/wastewater, or industrial systems.
  • Master's degree may substitute for one year of experience.
  • Professional Engineer registration is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Critical thinking, analytical skills, and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Additional beneficial skills include experience with ETAP, SKM, AutoCAD, Revit, and knowledge of relevant standards and fuel process equipment.

Compensation: $110,000 - $155,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications, including a base salary and potential bonuses.
